Decorated Cookies: Love is in the air

For those of you who plan in advance, we’d thought it would be perfect timing to highlight our Valentine’s Day decorated cookies, To create some of our original Valentine’s Day designs, I enlisted Nurbanu Assena, a Parsons student here in NYC, to add to our current collection of unique decorated cookies. While I love all the custom cookies Nurbanu created for me, I especially love the graphic on the upper left hand corner with mini bras and boxer shorts. So sweet! While we’ve chosen text to go with some of the graphic designs, keep in mind that the text can be customized. Check out our Web site to view all of our Valentine’s Day options. Masala Chai and Cookies

I took a brief two week break from posting and from decorated cookies, but I have a very good excuse as the hubby and I were on a much anticipated trip to India! Thankfully, my baker helped fulfill orders for my hand decorated cookies while I was away.

India is a fascinating country and I’m still digesting everything we saw during our visit. Cookies are not a popular dessert in India, but we managed to find some at the Oberoi Hotel in Agra while enjoying the ever-popular masala chai. If you look in the background of the photo below, you can see the Taj Majal in the distance.

Decorated Cookies: One of my favorite wedding blogs, Brooklyn Bride, just did a fantastic post about our studio where we make our decorated cookies. The blog occasionally features “studio tours” which includes a sneak peek at the creative spaces of various wedding vendors. On the day we snapped the shots of our studio we were busy making gourmet decorated cookies as thank you gifts with some of our new designs from Bella Cosa Design (the creator of our blog). Decorated Cookies: Smooch it up!

We recently created decorated cookies for a party at a wonderful children’s clothing store here in our neighborhood called Smoochie Baby. These gourmet decorated cookies featured Smoochie Baby’s signature logo and were a cookie favor as part of their opening celebration.

If you live in Brooklyn (or anywhere in NYC for that matter), Smoochie Baby should definitely be on your list of places to visit for children’s clothes, books, gifts and home decor. The owners scour the globe to find the coolest and most original items from around the world. Plus, they just added children’s haircuts (by appointment) that include a racing car barber chair paired with a little flat screen entertainment (genius!). Not to worry if you don’t live in NYC, starting in November this neighborhood favorite will only be one click away with the launch of its online store.

Decorated Cookies: Keep Calm and Eat a Cookie

Thank you for visiting our blog! We’re super excited to start posting about the many unique decorated cookies that we make for our customers as well as any fun baking finds that we stumble upon. I thought it would be appropriate that my first post was about the company that helped me actually create this blog – Bella Cosa Design. In addition to their creative (and technical) expertise, they also offered to design new images for our custom decorated cookies. Their style is a perfect match for our brand so I jumped at the opportunity.

While I will eventually post about all the cookie designs they made for our gourmet decorated cookies, there was one design that really caught my eye. It read “Keep Calm and Eat a Cookie.” Fantastic! I can imagine so many occasions where unique decorated cookies like this would be appropriate. I’ve always liked the “Keep Calm and Carry On” logo that I’ve seen on posters and t-shirts, but I never thought of doing a different spin for a cookie.

It also made me wonder about the history of this commonly-used design (and if I had the rights to use the image). After a little research on Wikipedia, I found the original “Keep Calm and Carry On” poster was produced by the British government in 1939 during the beginning of World War II, but it was never used. It resurrected in 2000 and is now part of the Public Domain which means it has no copyright. This is great news for us because now we can keep calm and eat our cookies too.
